Join me in conversation with inspirational people I’ve had the absolute pleasure to speak with. I’m so grateful for those that have given me their time-sharing insights into their work, their research and their personal stories.

I am thankful for those that have spoken from the heart about things they have been though, what they have learned and how struggles and adversity can be an opportunity for growth and learning, despite how difficult and sometimes devastating it seems at the time.

Join me for an expedition into people’s stories and the twists and turns of life.

The One With Adam Brunning: When Change Is Done to You: Taking Back Control

After nearly 20 years in the NHS, Adam took voluntary redundancy without another job lined up. It was exciting, frightening and, at times, came with a fair bit of guilt.

In this very informal conversation, we talk about what helped him make the decision, the importance of talking to other people, recognising the skills he could take beyond the NHS, and what it feels like when a career that has been part of your identity for years suddenly changes.

Adam has now moved into a completely different sector, working at the University of Essex, and talks openly about discovering that his leadership skills, experience and values came with him. We also talk about being described as a “kind leader”, finding enjoyment in work again, and why taking back even a little bit of control can make such a difference when everything around you feels uncertain.

If you’re facing restructuring, redundancy, career change — or simply wondering whether there might be something different out there for you — I think there’s a lot in Adam’s story that will resonate.
